Another weekend and yet again another relegation ‘six-pointer’ but this one is arguably the biggest of them all as West Ham who start the weekend in 17th place play host to Southampton who lie in 18th.

Southampton travel to East London having reached the FA Cup semi-finals after victory over Wigan Athletic and they also have a new face in the managerial hot seat as Mark Hughes has been drafted in until the end of the season with the brief simply being to keep the Saints in the Premier League.

There is so much at stake in this game that you must wonder if the occasion will get the better of them. West Ham’s defence is far worse, but Southampton are struggling in front of goal. That suggests the outcome at full-time will be a draw, a result that does neither side any real favours.

September 2016 saw the two sides square off at the London Stadium and it was apparent that West Ham were still having issues settling into their new home as Southampton recorded a comfortable 3-0 away win with goals from Charlie Austin, Dusan Tadic and James Ward-Prowse, causing Hammers fans to yearn for a return to Upton Park.
