Watford may start the weekend six points clear of the relegation zone going into their clash with Newcastle but the fact that they have not won any of their last seven Premier League matches will be cause for concern for manager Javi Gracia.
Although they gave Tottenham something of a test on Monday night, the truth is Mauricio Pochettino’s men never needed to get out of second gear as they picked up a much-needed win of their own.
The task now for Watford is to make sure this run of form does not cause them serious headaches going into the final week of the season. Something that opponents Newcastle do not need to worry about with their safety all but assured.
Rafael Benitez’s men may have lost their last two league outings but prior to that they had won four in a row, a run of results that has staved off any apparent danger of relegation this season.
Because of that, they have earned the right to coast through the final few games of the campaign, something that gives the impetus to Watford to make sure they can secure their own safety by picking up a win.
Watford again seem to be in the same post-Christmas pattern of the past two seasons, but it is something that has seen then stay up with just a few points to spare. It looks like lightning will strike thrice as they pick up the necessary points this weekend.
