Bangladesh beat New Zealand by 5 wickets

Captain: Kane Williamson

  • New Zealand are straight back into action after defeating India in their three-match T20 series but will be looking to pick up some ODI form having lost 4-1 in the ODI series which will be a concern heading towards the World Cup.

  • Having been ruled out of the T20 series, opener Martin Guptill returns to give the Blackcaps a boost although the pressure will be on Guptill and opening partner Henry Nicholls with New Zealand failing to produce an opening partnership of 35 runs or more in over a year in an ODI.

  • Doug Bracewell and Ish Sodhi have both been left out of the squad that saw some game time against India with Colin de Grandhomme and Jimmy Neesham taking up the all-rounder spots in the squad ahead of Bracewell whilst Sodhi’s omission is somewhat of a surprise.

Captain: Mashrafe Mortaza

  • Bangladesh have won their last three ODI series’ but face a much sterner test in New Zealand following two victories over West Indies and one against Zimbabwe with them only dropping two games from the nine they played.

  • Having been recalled to the side after some solid performances in the Bangladesh Premier League T20, Taskin Ahmed has suffered a cruel blow with an ankle injury ruling him out for the entire series and his comeback will have to wait that bit longer.

  • Sabbir Rahman is also back in the fold after his suspension for abusing a fan on social media was reduced by a month, making him eligible for this series and giving him the first chance at redemption following his misdemeanour although star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is out due to a finger fracture which he sustained in the final of the Bangladesh Premier League.

New Zealand continue with their busy schedule as they jump straight into another ODI series against Bangladesh following taking on India in all formats of the game. They were on the end of a heavy defeat in the ODI series against the Indians as they succumbed to a 4-1 defeat and will be looking for better here. They face a Bangladesh team in decent form having won their last three ODI series’ but this is a much tougher contest and in their final series before the World Cup, expect New Zealand to ramp-up their performance here.
