ISL meetings: Bengaluru FC W1, Chennaiyin FC W1

It’s quite fitting that the top two sides in the ISL regular phase have gone on to also make this season’s final, as table-toppers Bengaluru FC meet Chennaiyin FC in the battle to see who will be crowned 2017-18 champions.

Bengaluru FC disposed of FC Pune City in the previous stage, while Chennaiyin FC did the same to FC Goa. Because Albert Roca’s men come into this game as the regular season front runners they will be undoubted favourites, but John Gregory will hope he can mastermind something of a relative upset and steer his Chennai based side to victory.

In a final, there is always the chance that the form book can go out of the window as anything can happen in a one-off fixture. However. Bengaluru FC have been a class apart this season and would be deserved winners should they get the job done on Saturday.

The last meeting between these two sides was as recently as last month with Bengaluru FC getting the better of Chennaiyin FC. The meeting in February saw John Gregory’s Chennaiyin side play hosts and they were generous enough to gift the visitors all three points thanks to a 3-1 Bengaluru FC win.

The win for Albert Roca’s side went some way to exacting revenge for the 2-1 defeat they suffered at the hands of the regular seasons runners-up back in December 2017, a fixture that was the inaugural clash between these respective outfits.
