Last meeting: Rajasthan Royals beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 7 wickets

Coach: Gary Kirsten

Captain: Virat Kohli

  • This is last chance saloon for Royal Challengers Bangalore who must win to have any chance of reaching the top four even if their hopes now look bleak after defeat last time out against Delhi Capitals by 16 runs on Sunday.

  • Heinrich Klaasen came in for Tim Southee last time out to bolster the batting line-up but he could only score three runs in what has been his only innings in this year’s IPL so they will be hoping he can make a bigger contribution here otherwise they may take a punt on Shimron Hetmyer.

  • They have lost their last three matches against Rajasthan Royals so they will have to snap that losing streak and they will also need captain Virat Kohli to raise his game with the bat once again after only scoring 45 runs in his last three innings since scoring the century against KKR.

Coach: Paddy Upton

Captain: Steve Smith

  • Rajasthan Royals have won four of their last six matches including their last two as they come off an excellent seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the weekend and that was in spite of Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes having already departed for England.

  • The Royals will be tempted to name an unchanged team from that which beat the Sunrisers and the form of Liam Livingstone especially will have given them a great boost after his impressive 44 from 26 balls when opening the innings along with Rahane.

  • Another boost from that match was the 2/26 from Jaydev Unadkat who has struggled throughout the tournament so far but showed some positive signs of regaining some form and good bowling will be key on this high-scoring ground.

These two teams were desperately poor early in the tournament but they have shown some form in recent matches and are fighting for the top four. Their key players have been the ones to lift RCB while ironically the Royals have improved as some of their big-name overseas players have departed. The visitors have the edge in the recent meetings between the two teams as well as form overall. Their batting depth is looking good with the emergence of Parag and they have the better bowling attack so the Royals may just edge this one.
