All-time meetings: Mumbai Indians W6, Delhi Capitals W6 Last meeting: Delhi Capitals beat Mumbai Indians by 11 runs
THE TEAM NEWS
Coach: Mahela Jayawardene
Captain: Rohit Sharma
Mumbai Indians are coming off a hugely disappointing campaign in 2018 where they finished fifth but they have a phenomenal record in odd years having won the title in 2013, 2015 and 2017 so they will be hoping that is an omen for their title hopes in 2019.
They will have their entire roster available other than Jason Behrendorff who is with Australia and Lasith Malinga who is with Sri Lanka but they have plenty of options with Evin Lewis, Kieron Pollard and Quinton de Kock in Mumbai and available as they may go with just three overseas players for this opening match.
The biggest question mark is whether Yuvraj Singh will be handed a start and there is a good chance he will be handed a chance in this match but will be under some pressure to do well with other players pushing for a start.

Delhi Capitals come into this year’s edition with renewed hopes given that they possess some of the best young Indian talent in the tournament but they are under some pressure to improve upon their miserable performances in recent seasons.
Kagiso Rabada was left out of South Africa’s final two ODIs against Sri Lanka to join up with the Capitals and he will be available to join Trent Boult and Sandeep Lamichhane in a hugely talented overseas bowling attack.
The batting line-up is predominantly local with the experienced Colin Ingram adding even more strength and quality while Shikhar Dhawan will make his debut for the team after they traded for the opener and he will be another key figure for a relatively youthful side.
There will be plenty of pressure on both teams in this opening match and the greater experience within the Mumbai Indians’ ranks could be the decisive factor. They started the campaign last year relatively slowly and they will be motivated to do better this year and start well. Delhi should be able to compete much better than they did last season and they have much more quality in their roster. However, their batting may find it difficult against Bumrah and the Pandya brothers who should lead the Indians to an opening victory.
