Sunrisers had a great start to their campaign with a comprehensive victory over Rajasthan Royals. The bowling unit was impressive restricting their opposition to 125 from 20 overs and the batsmen made light work of the total chasing it inside 16 overs for the loss of just one wicket.
Shikhar Dhawan was the star of the show scoring 78 not out from 57 balls while new captain Kane Williamson played a good supporting role scoring a steady 36 not out from 35 balls. Wickets were shared amongst the bowlers, however local Siddarth Kaul was perhaps the most impressive with the medium pacer capturing 2/17 from his four overs.
After such a dominant performance, it is highly unlikely there will be any changes to the Sunrisers starting team as the look to regain their position on top of the ladder with the only possible changes being among their overseas’ players so Alex Hales could potentially come in.
Coach: Mahela Jayawardene
Captain: Rohit Sharma
Mumbai will be extremely disappointed to let the game against Chennai slip away. The game was well and truly on their terms and at one stage had CSK 118/8 before Dwayne Bravo produced his match saving innings.
Young leg-spinner Mayank Markande enjoyed an incredible debut game which saw him capture 3/23 off his four overs. Markande looks to have great control of both his stock ball and variations with no better example than the ball that trapped Indian legend MS Dhoni LBW for just 5 so he will be one to watch again.
Fast bowlers Mitch McClenaghan and Mustafizur Rahman both went at over 10 runs per over against Chennai and without a replacement named yet for injured Pat Cummins Mumbai do not have a lot of bowling depth and the poor performance by their two opening bowlers may see Ben Cutting into the starting XI to face his old team.
This game looks to be a big one. Mumbai will be looking to bounce back after their narrow loss to CSK whilst Sunrisers Hyderabad will be looking to make it two from two after a dominant showing against Rajasthan Royals. In what was an interesting game, half of Mumbai’s bowlers performed well whilst their two key fast bowlers were poor. Sunrisers Hyderabad however will feel comfortable with their squad and should continue their winning ways in what will be a fascinating match-up.
