THE TEAM NEWS

CHENNAI SUPER KINGS

Coach: Stephen Fleming

Captain: MS Dhoni

  • Chennai produced a lacklustre performance against Rajasthan. After posting 176, the Chennai bowlers were powerless to stop the Jos Buttler led Royals who chased the target for the loss of six wickets.
  • Chennai’s bowling has been their weakness throughout the tournament. At this stage, Chennai are the only team to not have a player take over ten wickets for the season with Shardul Thakur leading with nine wickets and that may be their downfall unless they keep regularly hitting 200 runs with the bat.
  • Karn Sharma bowled just one over for the match and could lose his spot to fellow spinner Imran Tahir for this match would be a notable upgrade for the team.

SUNRISERS HYDERABAD

Coach: Tom Moody

Captain: Kane Williamson

  • Sunrisers Hyderabad now sit alone at the top of the table and have qualified for the play-offs with a crushing nine-wicket win over the Delhi Daredevils.
  • The Sunrisers bowlers had an off night but were saved by the outstanding batting performances of Kane Williamson and Shikhar Dhawan. Both players produced some fabulous strokes and helped power SRH to the nine wicket win.
  • Having already qualified, SRH may look to give some players a break before the play-offs however Tom Moody will be reluctant to change a winning team and especially against a possible rival in the play-offs.

THE PREDICTION

This top of the table clash has little meaning for Hyderabad who are looking to continue their winning form into the play-offs, whilst Chennai will be looking to bank a win and ensure there is no possibility of dropping out of the top four. Chennai’s batting has been solid throughout the tournament but have been let down at times by their poor bowling. Generally speaking, Hyderabad have been fantastic with the ball and whilst have not been consistently outstanding with the bat, have found ways to win. This match is extremely important for Chennai and the need for them to secure a victory should see them get the points over an already qualified Hyderabad whom they have a strong winning record against.
