All-time meetings: Chennai Super Kings W12, Delhi Daredevils W4

THE TEAM NEWS

CHENNAI SUPER KINGS

Coach: Stephen Fleming

Captain: MS Dhoni

  • Chennai were stunned by a Mumbai outfit who had only won two matches for the tournament last time out as after being restricted to a sub-par 169, nobody expected Mumbai to chase down the total with the loss of just two wickets.
  • This loss for Chennai sees them back in the logjam of teams on 10 points and five wins so they will be keen to get back to winning ways here and having played one less match than SRH and KXI, a win would have seen them a match clear and a far superior net run rate at the top of the table.
  • Although they are coming off a loss, the form of the CSK squad has been strong and Coach Stephen Fleming may be reluctant to make any unnecessary changes although Deepak Chahar is ruled out for a couple of weeks so Mark Wood could come into the side while Shane Watson may also be rested.

DELHI DAREDEVILS

Coach: Ricky Ponting

Captain: Gautam Gambhir

  • In another shock result, the Daredevils absolutely punished the Kolkata Knight Riders as the batting order finally clicked resulting in a mammoth chase of 219 for KKR. The job wasn’t done with yet however, Delhi produced a fine bowling display to dismantle the powerful line-up of their opposition and claimed their second win of IPL 2018.
  • The Daredevils batting line-up finally found some form in their match against KKR, with the top three batsmen with Prithvi Shaw (62 from 44), Colin Munro (33 from 18) and Shreyas Iyer (93 from 40) dominating the KKR bowlers.
  • Ricky Ponting will most likely reward the playing XI from the KKR match barring any injuries which have been reported so it will be the same again for a team that looks much more balanced with Plunkett coming in and Iyer taking over the captaincy.

THE PREDICTION

This match is all of a sudden not as one-sided as many would have thought. Delhi finally showed what they are capable of with a massive win over KKR while Chennai were off colour against the lowly Mumbai Indians and are looking to bounce back. Chennai’s form of late is hard to ignore and the Chennai supporters will be hoping the match against Mumbai was a one-off. On the other side of the coin, Delhi have the chance to show that their display against KKR was a turning of the tide and not a flash in the pan performance. With the jury still out on Delhi, the Chennai outfit have been more consistent overall throughout the tournament and should get back to winning ways.
