Captain: Virat Kohli

  • India suffered a shock defeat in the T20 series as Australia were able to whitewash them by two matches to nil and will now turn their attention back to ODIs as they ramp up their preparations ahead of the World Cup.

  • Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has been overlooked for this ODI series and looks set to miss out on a place in the World Cup squad with time running out to seal a spot with him voicing his dismay at the decision to leave him out.

  • Rohit Sharma is under pressure to perform after a poor effort in his last two ODI appearances, managing just nine runs combined in those two matches and he was also left out of the second T20 match after scoring just five in the first game.

Captain: Aaron Finch

  • Australia completed a whitewash of India in the T20 series and will look to continue their recent upturn in form in this ODI series with the tourists’ Glenn Maxwell set to be crucial to their chances following his heroics in the T20s.

  • Kane Richardson’s comeback for Australia has been cut short by an injury sustained batting in the nets with the bowler disappointingly needing to be replaced in the squad by Andrew Tye.

  • D’Arcy Short will be hoping his good performances in the T20 matches will open the door for him to be included at some point during the ODI series but he remains a standby option at present.

Australia came out on top of both games in the T20 series to whitewash India and will be looking to carry that form into the ODI series. Both games could have gone either way but the tourists held their nerve to seal the victories and they will hope it sets the tone for the rest of their tour. India have plenty of talent in their line-up and will know they just lacked a clinical edge to their game in the T20 matches but Australia have the momentum here and can continue their good form with a win in this first ODI game.
