Huddersfield Giants vs Castleford Tigers Preview

The Lowdown

  • After a poor run of form, the Giants produced an outstanding second half display at Leeds last week to score 19 unanswered points to beat the Rhinos 31-12 in what was an emotional week following the death of the owner's wife.
  • The Giants are without winger Jermaine McGillvary who is away on international duty with England in Australia so that has led to a recall for Gene Ormsby though the absence of McGillvary is a blow to the side.
  • They also welcome back Sam Rapira and Nathan Mason to the squad as Matthew English and Mikey Wood make way as they look to build on that fantastic result against Leeds last weekend.

Head Coach: Rick Stone

Squad: Danny Brough, Paul Clough, Dale Ferguson, Ryan Hinchcliffe, Sebastine Ikahihifo, Kruise Leeming, Jake Mamo, Nathan Mason, Darnell McIntosh, Alex Mellor, Aaron Murphy, Adam O'Brien, Gene Ormsby, Sam Rapira, Oliver Roberts, Jared Simpson, Daniel Smith, Shannon Wakeman, Sam Wood

Unavailable: Jermaine McGillvary (International duty), Leroy Cudjoe (Knee), Tom Symonds, Ukuma Ta’ai, Michael Lawrence, Tyler Dickinson, Lee Gaskell, Mikey Wood, Matthew English

  • After two defeats, Cas bounced back to winning ways in emphatic fashion as they hammered Wigan 54-4 last week to maintain top spot and reproduce their best form against the champions.
  • Castleford's squad depth will be tested here as they are without Zak Hardaker, Luke Gale and Mike McMeeken who are all on international duty with England so Powell has recalled a handful of players from loan spells to join the squad here.
  • Tom Holmes, Kevin Larroyer and Kieran Gill all return to the club while Alex Foster could make his first appearance after recently joining the club as the Tigers are also without the injured Ben Roberts.

Head Coach: Daryl Powell

Analysis - what to expect
Much depends on which version of the Huddersfield Giants turn up this week. The one which played with their hearts on their sleeves and thoroughly deserved to beat Leeds last week or the one which has been hugely disappointing and been shipping tries through their leaky defence? Cas bounced back last week against Wigan to re-establish themselves as the best team in the Super League this season and even though they are missing some players, they still have the creativity to unlock this average Huddersfield defence and win the game.
