  • Clay is not Cilic's favoured surface as his big serve is nullified somewhat but he has had some reasonable results in the run-up to the French Open, reaching the quarter-finals at Monte-Carlo and semi-finals in Rome.
  • The Croat's best run at Roland-Garros was when he reached the quarter-finals last year.
  • Cilic has already reached the final of a Grand Slam this year, taking Roger Federer to five sets at the Australian Open in January.

  • Duckworth's ranking has plummeted to 1072 following an injury-hit period of his career but he has been as high as 82 in the past.
  • This is the Australian's first appearance at a Grand Slam main draw since reaching the first round of the 2017 Australian Open.
  • Duckworth will rely on his big forehand as his chief weapon against Cilic, whom he has never previously faced on the tour.

Cilic's game doesn't quite suit the clay surface but he is still capable of going far at Roland-Garros this year. Duckworth - whose last couple of years have been blighted by injury - is a much stronger player than his world ranking suggests and is capable of competing with the Croat, but ultimately Cilic should have enough to progress in straight sets.
