THE LOWDOWN

LUCAS POUILLE

  • In a second round match that spanned two days, home favourite Pouille eventually overcame British youngster Cameron Norrie in a fascinating four-set encounter.
  • The Frenchman has equalled last year's performance at Roland-Garros where he also reached the third round and lost in five sets to Albert Ramos Vinolas.
  • This is the second 22-year-old Russian that Pouille has had to face in this year's French Open, having already seen off Daniil Medvedev in the first round.

KAREN KHACHANOV

  • Khachanov came through a tough second round on Wednesday as he recorded a closely-contested four-set win over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.
  • Part of the new breed of emerging talent in the men's game, the Russian is seeking emulate his best Grand Slam performance which came when he reached the fourth round here last year.
  • Khachanov won an ATP 250 event in Marseilles earlier this year and it was today's opponent he beat in the final, although Pouille exacted revenge just a week later in Dubai.

THE STATISTICS

THE PREDICTION

A close battle is expected here between these two who have already met twice this year in matches that went to a deciding set. Their paths to the final have also been quite similar with a straight sets win in the first round followed by a four-set victory in the second. If that wasn't enough, there is also the fact that both men have enjoyed similar seasons with an ATP 250 title to their names.

Everything points to a match going the distance here with Pouille just given the edge on account of his home advantage.
