THE LOWDOWN

DAMIR DZUMHUR

  • Dzumhur came through a gruelling five-setter in the second round as he outlasted Radu Albot who had come back from two sets down to tie the match.
  • This is the fifth time that the Bosnian has reached the third round of a major but he has never managed to progress beyond this stage so he will be highly motivated to break new ground.
  • Dzumhur can draw confidence from the fact that he was the victor in the only previous time he has faced Zverev on tour - a 6-4, 7-5 victory in China last year.

ALEXANDER ZVEREV

  • After a routine first round win, Zverev was pushed all the way in a topsy-turvy second round clash with Dusan Lajovic, eventually coming through in five sets.
  • The world number three has something of a monkey on his back when it comes to the Grand Slams as he has only once reached the fourth round of a major despite enjoying plenty of success elsewhere.
  • The German will once again rely on his big serve to get on the front foot as that has been a key weapon in his success on tour this year.

THE STATISTICS

THE PREDICTION

Both men are coming off five-set wins so there should be no physical advantage for either player, and whilst Zverev is all too aware of his disappointing Grand Slam results compared to his success in other tournaments, his epic victory in the second round on Wednesday could well be a turning point as he seeks to showcase his undeniable talents on the biggest stage. The German is favoured but until he reaches the latter stages of a major there are going to be nerves, so Dzumhur - who will relish his underdog tag - could well pick up a set along the way.
