Sunday 12th August

Arsenal vs Man City (16:00)

- Nacho Monreal (£5.5m) only started training today so Ainsley Maitland-Niles (£4.5m midfielder) is set to start at left-back against Man City.

- Aaron Ramsey (£7.5m) returned to training on Thursday and could start on Sunday. Bernd Leno and Petr Cech (£5.0m) are vying it out for the No 1 spot in Unai Emery’s XI.

- If Ramsey only makes the bench, Henrikh Mkhitaryan (£7.0m) could start with Mesut Ozil (£8.5m) the furthest forward in a midfield three. Matteo Guendouzi (£4.5m) is a more defensive option in the middle of the park.

- With City and Chelsea in the opening two gameweeks, FPL bosses can afford to assess Emery’s line-ups before investing – though the pre-season form of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) is very persuasive, with the Gabon striker seemingly more nailed-on than the cheaper Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m).

- New midfield signing Jefferson Lerma (£4.5m) is not in contention for the Cherries. Junior Stanislas (£6.0m) is out for a month, while Nathan Ake (£5.0m) trained this week after being substituted early against Marseille last week. New left-back Diego Rico (£4.5m) is susppended until GW4.

- Chris Hughton said: "Jurgen Locadia (£5.5m) has been training for a few weeks now and Florin Andone (£5.0M) should train tomorrow or Monday (but is a doubt for Saturday). Jose Izquierdo (£6.0m) is still coming back from the World Cup and we want to give him a bit more time."

- Joe Hart (£4.5m) made his Burnley debut on Thursday night in a 0-0 draw away at Istanbul Basaksehir and should retain his start for Sunday.

- Chris Wood, Robbie Brady, Steven Defour and Anders Lindegaard all missed the tie through injury and are doubts for GW1.

- Phil Bardsley (£4.5m) and Charlie Taylor (£4.5m) started in the full-back positions for the European trip, so Matt Lowton (£5.0m) and Stephen Ward (£5.0m) should take over against Southampton. Ben Gibson (£5.0m) is an alternative at centre-back.

-Lee Peltier (£4.0m) could begin at right-back for the Bluebirds after starting the final pre-season game against Real Betis, while Neil Etheridge (£4.5m) got the nod in goal ahead of Alex Smithies (£4.5m) for the 2-1 defeat.

- Neil Warnock did not report any injuries, but late loan signing Harry Arter (£5.0m) cannot play against parent club Bournemouth.

-Iceland international Aron Gunnarsson (£4.5m) only managed 100-odd minutes during the summer for Cardiff, so Callum Paterson (£5.5m) should start in central midfield with Joe Ralls (£5.0m).

- Maurizio Sarri is “undecided” on whether £71m signing Kepa (£5.5m) will begin in goal tomorrow, so Willy Caballero (£5.0m) could earn a rare start.

- Pedro (£6.5m) and Callum Hudson-Odoi (£4.5m) started in attack against Man City in the Community Shield. After a disappointing performance, the latter in particular could be under threat for a GW1 start from Victor Moses (£6.0m) and Willian (£7.5m).

- There is also the chance that players such as Eden Hazard (£10.5m) and N’Golo Kante (£5.0m) could be involved, with the France midfielder threatening the starts of Cesc Fabregas (£6.5m) and Ross Barkley (£6.0m).

- The Chelsea boss said earlier this week: "It will be difficult to have those players involved in the final weekend (of the World Cup) - Hazard / Giroud / Cahill / Kante - ready to play. We can do it for one or two, no more."

- Sarri also stated that Mateo Kovacic (£6.0m) “could be very important” for the Blues to “play between the lines”.

- New signing Max Meyer (£6.0m) is not yet ready to play, while Palace have no “significant new injuries” ahead of the trip to Fulham.

- The goalkeeping position is up for grabs at Selhurst Park, with Wayne Hennessey (£4.5m) set to battle it out with Vicente Guaita (£4.5m) for the No 1 spot.

- Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£4.0m) looks set to start at right-back in GW1, having been mostly preferred there to Joel Ward (4.5m) over the summer.

- The Cottagers have issues at centre-half with Dennis Odoi (£4.5m) suspended, Alfie Mawson (£5.0m) out for the initial gameweeks and Tim Ream (£4.5m) also sidelined. Maxime Le Marchand (£4.5m) could partner Calum Chambers (£4.5m) in central defence, meaning midfielder Ryan Sessegnon (£6.5m) would revert to left-back.

- This could pave the way for forward Aboubakar Kamara (£4.5m), who clocked up several pre-season starts, to make up part of Slavisa Jokanovic’s attacking three.

- None of Everton’s deadline-day signings – Yerry Mina (£5.5m), Bernard (£6.0m) and Andre Gomes (£5.5m) – will be in the GW1 squad travelling to Wolves. Gomes will not be fit for three weeks.

- Marco Silva has confirmed that Ademola Lookman (£5.5m) is “in his plans” for the season. But Richarlison (£6.5m) and Theo Walcott (£6.5m) are expected to start against Wolves in the left and right attacking-midfield positions, with Gylfi Sigurdsson in the No 10 role. However, the Iceland star could play at the tip of a midfield three in Silva’s preferred 4-3-3 formation.

- Maarten Stekelenburg (£4.0m) may start GW1 ahead of Jordan Pickford (£5.0m) after the first-choice keeper’s lengthy World Cup campaign.

- Ben Hamer (£4.0m) could start in goal for the Terriers after playing most of Huddersfield’s pre-season friendlies. Boss David Wagner said: “I’m very happy with what I’ve seen from Ben Hamer. We signed him to be a real competitor and he has done it well.”

- Danny Williams (£4.5m) and Erik Durm (£4.5m) are sidelined. Deadline-day signing Isaac Mbenza (£6.0m) is set to be assessed.

- James Maddison (£6.5m) is available after suffering a knock in Leicester’s final pre-season friendly, while Jonny Evans (£5.0m) faces a late fitness test.

- Harry Maguire (£5.5m) and Jamie Vardy (£9.0m) could play some part for the Foxes. Manager Claude Puel said: “Harry and Jamie are ready in their mind, but I don’t know if they’re ready in their body and their fitness level.”

- Kelechi Iheanacho (£6.0m) looks certain to start after scoring four times in pre-season, with Maddison likely to operate at No 10 if Vardy does not begin the game. Daniel Amartey (£4.5m) is an option at right-back which would allow Ricardo Pereira (£5.0m) to operate on the right wing.

- Puel could also opt for a 3-5-2 formation, using Pereira and Ben Chilwell (£5.0m) as wing-backs. This set-up could see Christian Fuchs (£4.5m) play as a left-sided centre-half in GW1, while Fousseni Diabate (£5.0m) or Marc Albrighton (£5.5m) would drop out of the XI. If new winger Rachid Ghezzal (£5.5m) is to make his debut for Leicester, it will probably be from the bench.

- Dejan Lovren (£5.0m) is ruled out of GW1, while Fabinho (£6.0m) will be assessed. Jurgen Klopp said: “Fabinho was feeling unwell. We sent him home… we will have to see [if he will be fit]. Dejan will not be available for the weekend. I have to make a few decisions, a few players will not be involved in the moment.”

- Alisson (£5.5m) will start in goal, while the Liverpool boss reserved praise for Daniel Sturridge (£6.0m). Klopp added: “Alisson has settled really quickly. He has been in for two weeks, but looks like he has been in for much longer. I can’t remember a bad game from Sturridge in pre-season. That’s really good. He is in good shape and hopefully he can bring that into the season.”

- Pep Guardiola has declared Kevin De Bruyne (£10.0m) and Raheem Sterling (£11.0m) available after the pair arrived back on Monday in “perfect condition”.

- Bernardo Silva (£7.5m) should still start after the City boss lavished praise on the Portuguese midfielder following the Community Shield.

- Sergio Aguero (£11.0m) scored both goals in that win over Chelsea and is expected to lead the line ahead of Gabriel Jesus (£10.5m) – unless Guardiola pairs the strikers in a 3-5-2 system. John Stones (£5.5m) also started that game and could begin ahead of Nicolas Otamendi (£6.5m).

- Jose Mourinho is without Sergio Romero, Diogo Dalot, Antonio Valencia, Marco Rojo, Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic.

- The United boss said of his World Cup players: ”They returned on Monday. They trained on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and today, so you can imagine that they're not really fit and ready, but we have needs. Their feeling is very important and understanding how they think they can help or not help."

- Luke Shaw (£5.0m) and Matteo Darmian (£5.0m) look set for starts in the full-back spots, but Ashley Young (£6.0m) is likely to oust one of the pair in GW2. Eric Bailly (£5.5m), Chris Smalling (£6.0m), Phil Jones (£5.5m) and Victor Lindelof (£5.0m) are all vying for two centre-back spots, unless Mourinho opts for a 3-5-2-system.

- Alexis Sanchez (£10.5m) performed well at centre-forward in pre-season, but could be shifted to the wing if Mourinho prefers Marcus Rashford (£7.0m) up front.

- Martin Dubravka (£5.0m) and Mo Diame (£5.0m) are expected to be fit for the visit of Spurs. Ex-Swansea defender Federico Fernandez (£4.5m) will not be in Newcastle’s GW1 squad.

- Joselu (£5.0m) could lead the line, though faces competition from Salomon Rondon (£6.0m) and Yoshinori Muto (£6.0m).

- Danny Ings (£5.5m) is in contention to play for Southampton after his move from Liverpool.

- On Cedric (£4.5m), Mark Hughes said: “Cedric has been back since Monday. He was poorly last week and he looks okay now; he’s a fit guy anyway and has been to the World Cup of course. If he’s fit and I think he’s right and ready, it won’t be a problem for him to play."

- If the 13.2%-owned defender does not make GW1, Matt Targett (£4.5m) looks set to deputise.

- Hughes seems to be settled on a 3-5-2 formation, with Jan Bednarek (£4.0m), Jack Stephens (£4.5m) and Maya Yoshida (£4.5m) likely to battle it out for the third centre-back spot.

- Mario Lemina (£5.0m), Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (£4.5m) and Oriel Romeu (£4.5m) will tussle for the two central mdifield spots.

- Erik Lamela (£6.5m) is ruled out of GW1. Heung-min Son (£8.5m) should start before heading off to the Asian Games for August, while Lucas Moura (£7.0m) is also expected to begin in attacking midfield.

- On his late returners from the World Cup, Mauricio Pochettino said: “It’s difficult to think that all the players are going to play in the starting 11 – some players will be in the starting 11, some on the bench and some will be out, trying to get fitter.”

- Abdoulaye Doucoure (£6.0m), who missed pre-season due to appendicitis, is available for the Hornets. Gerard Deulofeu (£5.5m), Stefano Okaka (£5.0m) and Nathaniel Chalobah (£4.5m) are not ready for GW1 but could feature soon. Tom Cleverley (£5.0m) is a longer-term absentee.

- Both Gareth Barry and James Morrison remain out. Darren Moore has an otherwise fully-fit squad for the dead rubber against Crystal Palace but is unlikely to make starting XI changes considering West Brom's form.

- Edimilson Fernandes (£4.5m) is the Hammers’ only fresh doubt for the clash away to Liverpool. Manuel Pellegrini is likely to set his side up in a 4-1-4-1 formation, though considering West Ham’s summer business the XI is far from settled.

- Luckily for FPL managers, the Irons’ tough early-season fixture list means we can wait and see before investing in West Ham’s defence. Marko Arnautovic (£7.0m), however, will be planning to trump fixtures with form at the head of Pellegrini’s attack.

- Popular goalkeeper pick Lukasz Fabianski played less minutes than Adrian
(both £4.5m) over the summer due to the World Cup, but the Pole started in West Ham’s final pre-season game so is expected to take the No 1 spot initially at least.

Ryan Bennett (£4.0m) will rival Romain Saiss (£4.5m) for a spot in Nuno’s three-man backline against Everton. Midfielder Leander Dendoncker (4.5m), who can also operate at centre-half, is not expected to be involved for GW1. Adama Traore (£5.5m) has similarly not trained fully since joining the club.
