It is one win a piece in the league this season between the two sides with Liverpool’s win at Anfield going some way to erasing the memory of the thrashing they suffered at the Etihad back in September 2017 when Sadio Mane was sent off for a high challenge on Ederson.

This tie can certainly be lost on Wednesday night with a heavy defeat so we might see a slightly different approach than opposed to the cut and thrust of the Premier League. If Manchester City can get an away goal, then it would put them in the box seat for the return leg next week.

With the talents at the disposal of both Liverpool and Manchester Citym it is a game that promises goals and it may well be a case that there is little to split them as this one ends in a draw leaving the second leg very neatly poised.
