Catalans Dragons vs Leeds Rhinos Preview

The Lowdown

  • Despite the likes of Greg Bird returning last week, the Catalans could not compete with Wakefield who comfortably beat them 30-10 in Yorkshire so they are currently on a two-game losing streak.
  • Luke Walsh has been handed a one-match ban for using foul and abusive language towards an official last week so he misses out while New Zealand international centre Krisnan Inu drops out through injury.
  • They are boosted by the return from injury of Brayden Wiliame while back-rower Louis Anderson also returns to the squad after missing the loss to Wakefield as they look to bounce back.

  • Leeds have been in excellent form this season but have occasionally suffered shock defeats and that was the case last week when they were outfought by a valiant Huddersfield Giants side who just wanted it more.
  • Kallum Watkins and Ryan Hall have both joined up with the England squad to face Samoa in Australia so they both miss out but they are boosted by the return to fitness of both Ashton Golding and Liam Sutcliffe, which is key as Watkins has been on kicking duties in recent weeks.
  • Aussie prop Mitch Garbutt and his partner welcomed their newborn son this week so he is handed a week off whilst Jack Ormondroyd comes into the 19-man squad for the trip to France.

Analysis - what to expect
Catalans are under pressure to get a win at home and their team news is generally favourable overall despite missing Walsh and Inu. Leeds have some key absentees due to international call-ups and they come off a poor loss to Huddersfield, although they have generally responded well after losing matches in surprising fashion this season. They still have plenty of flair in their squad to create openings and they are marginally favoured to bounce back here in what could be a high scoring game.
