THE TEAM NEWS

AUSTRALIA

Captain: Aaron Finch

  • Australia continue their World Cup preparations with another five-match ODI series, fresh from their superb series win in India having overturned a 2-0 deficit by winning the final three matches.

  • Usman Khawaja silenced the doubters he had ahead of the series in India by scoring 383 runs at an average of 76.6 including two innings where they managed to make three figures and he will look to carry that form on here.

  • Nathan Coulter-Nile has been named in the Australian squad having missed the end of the series in India to be present for the birth of his second child but he may not walk straight back into the starting XI with plenty of competition for places.

PAKISTAN

Captain: Shoaib Malik

  • Pakistan are back in ODI action for the first time since the end of January when they suffered a narrow series defeat to South Africa as a seven-wicket defeat in the final game saw them lose 3-2.

  • 18-year-old Mohammad Hasnain could be set for his ODI debut after he was selected in the squad having impressed for Quetta Gladiators in the PSL with the quick bowler named player of the match in the final.

  • Hasnain is one of four uncapped players in the Pakistan squad that sees eight changes from the South Africa series with the team set to be led by Shoaib Malik with regular captain Sarfraz Ahmed rested.

THE PREDICTION

Australia sent out a real message ahead of the World Cup as they saw off India having been 2-0 down in the five-match series. They now face Pakistan who currently sit one place below them in the ICC rankings with conditions in the UAE set to provide a good test for both teams. The Australians will be full of confidence after their superb win in India but must back that up here and can take advantage of Pakistan resting players although it will be interesting to see what problems youngster Mohammad Hasnain can cause if selected in this first game.
