There seems to be no stopping Djokovic at the moment and he delivered another commanding performance in his second match as he outclassed Alexander Zverev in a 6-4, 6-1 victory.
The Serb is now guaranteed a spot in the semi-finals but it would be surprising to see him take his foot off the gas as he will want to continue the momentum he is currently on.
Having won 16 of their 18 meetings, Djokovic has rarely been troubled by Cilic's game in the past so he is the overwhelming favourite to keep his winning run going.
Cilic rallied to beat John Isner on Wednesday to keep his qualification hopes alive. After losing a tight first set on a tie-break, Cilic improved his serving statistics to take the next two sets which will have given him a boost in confidence after a disappointing opening loss to Alexander Zverev.
Cilic's fate will also hinge on the first match of the day between Zverev and Isner, with the Croat hoping that the American wins that match to give him the best chance of reaching the final four.
The world number seven secured a rare victory over Djokovic earlier this year when they met in the Queens final and he also took a set off the Serb when they faced off in both Cincinnati and Paris recently so he will hold some hope of success.
Cilic will need his serve to be hitting the lines with regularity here if he is to challenge Djokovic, but given the largely one-sided nature of their rivalry and the current irresistible form of the world number one, a win for the Croat seems unlikely.
Seeing as he has already secured his passage to Saturday's semi-finals, the biggest danger for Djokovic here will be complacency, but a lacklustre approach is not really in his DNA so it is difficult to see his level dropping. He'll want to keep the winning feeling going and should do so against an opponent he tends to dominate. Djokovic in straight sets.
