The Lowdown

  • Dimitrov continued his excellent tournament by overcoming in-form Jack Sock in the semi-finals and find himself in one of the biggest matches of his career.
  • He will hope for a repeat of his round-robin victory over Goffin in which he outclassed his Belgian opponent in every department.
  • In addition to that win, Dimitrov has beaten Goffin on two other occasions this year and all three victories were on hard courts, so he has to be considered the favourite for the title.

  • Goffin produced a sensational performance to defeat tournament favourite Roger Federer in the semi-final and finds himself within touching distance of his biggest career title.
  • The Belgian came into the tournament having never beaten Nadal nor Federer so his victories over both will have given him great belief going into the final.
  • The main concern for Goffin is how easily he was defeated by Dimitrov in the group stage but if he can summon his best game he certainly has a realistic chance of lifting the trophy.

The Statistics

The Prediction

Few would have predicted this final before the tournament began but both Dimitrov and Goffin are fully deserving of their place in this season-ending showdown at the 02 Arena. Goffin has enjoyed magnificent victories over Nadal and Federer over the past week whilst Dimitrov has been consistently excellent in all four of his victories. The Bulgarian's comfortable defeat of Goffin in the round-robin stage means he is favoured but this match could have an altogether different complexion given what's at stake. Dimitrov still has the edge, but a three-setter is very much on the cards.
