meetings: Rob Cross 2-0 Jeffrey de Zwaan
Previous meeting: Rob Cross 3-1 Jeffrey de Zwaan

  • Rob Cross saw his winning run come to a disappointing end last night in Rotterdam as he threw away a 5-1 lead against Mensur Suljovic to end up on the wrong side of a 7-5 result.
  • Voltage had averaged over 101 in six of his seven Premier League matches prior to last night and his average was 101 when he led 5-1, but he subsequently faded badly and missed a total of 11 darts at the outer ring in the next six legs as Suljovic pulled off an unlikely win.
  • He is now in second place in the league table but is only behind Van Gerwen on leg difference.

  • Young Dutch talent Jeffrey de Zwaan takes to the Premier League stage in his home country as one of the nine ‘contenders’ replacing Gary Anderson in the tournament due to his withdrawal through injury.
  • De Zwaan really came to the public’s attention when he defeated Michael van Gerwen at the 2018 UK Open. He backed up that performance by defeating the world number one again at the 2018 World Matchplay where he went on to reach the semi-finals.
  • Since his run to the semi-finals at the World Matchplay, he has not progressed further than the last 16 in a senior PDC ranking tournament.

Rob Cross will be looking to bounce back from his defeat last night having had the two points in the palm of his hand only to let the win slip from his grasp. It remains to be seen if the loss has a negative effect on the former world champion but he bounced straight back from his previous poor performance and defeat so he is well capable of putting it behind him. Jeffrey de Zwaan showed his potential when he reached the semi-finals at the World Matchplay last summer but since then he has struggled to make in-roads and he needs to take this opportunity to showcase his skills. They last met in December at the World Championship with Cross coming out on top in a very high-quality match. A repeat of that outcome is predicted here.
