All-time meetings:
Peter Wright 15-53 Michael van Gerwen (2 draws)
Previous meeting: Michael van Gerwen 5-2 Peter Wright

  • Peter Wright has only lost one of his seven Premier League matches this season but sits just outside the top four (on leg difference), mainly due to having drawn four of those matches.
  • Last Thursday night in Berlin he squandered a winning opportunity against James Wade when he led 5-2 and missed a number of opportunities over the next four legs as Wade went on to edge ahead 6-5 before Snakebite salvaged a point.
  • Wright reached the semi-finals at the European Darts Open last weekend where he ended up losing to the in-form Rob Cross.

  • Michael van Gerwen has won just one of his last four Premier League matches and is two points behind the league leader Rob Cross. Last week he lost 7-5 to Daryl Gurney despite having led 2-0 early on.
  • Van Gerwen averaged 98.54 against Gurney meaning he has now averaged over 100 in only two of his last six Premier League matches.
  • The world number one pushed aside any concerns over his form when he won the European Darts Open last weekend. On his way to winning the title, he hit a nine-dart finish in his semi-final win against Mensur Suljovic and also recorded an average of over 104 in the final against Rob Cross.

Michael van Gerwen’s Premier League form has been patchy and he will be desperate to kick-start his campaign again with a victory in front of a large crowd in his homeland. Standing in Van Gerwen’s way is Peter Wright who defeated Van Gerwen twice in the 2018 Premier League, including a 7-5 win in this very same arena in front of an expectant Dutch crowd. MVG also lost to Dutch rival Raymond van Barneveld here last year so it was not a happy hunting ground for the Green Machine. Wright has been playing well in patches during the campaign and does have a chance of toppling the home favourite, but the confidence Van Gerwen will take from winning a tournament at the weekend should stand him in good stead to get back to winning ways in the Premier League.
