All-time meetings:
Peter Wright 17-18 James Wade (1 draw)
Previous meeting: Peter Wright 6-6 James Wade

  • Peter Wright is seventh in the table and three points outside the play-off places. Last Thursday night in Liverpool he lost 8-5 to Rob Cross and he is now without a win in his last six Premier League matches.
  • Despite his defeat against Cross it was a much-improved performance from Wright as he averaged over 100 for the first time since night six – Wright’s average after ten legs against Cross was 108.
  • Last weekend he reached the last 16 at Players Championship 11 before losing 6-5 to eventual runner-up Michael Smith, the following day at Players Championship 12 he lost in the second round to Dirk van Duijvenbode.

  • James Wade sits in third place in the league table – ahead of Gerwyn Price, Mensur Suljovic and Daryl Gurney on leg difference. Wade comes into this match having won only one of his six Premier League matches.
  • He earned a draw against Gurney last week despite averaging nearly 14 points lower than his opponent with Gurney recording an average of 104 to Wade’s 90.17.
  • The Machine has been in tremendous form away from the Premier League with back-to-back Players Championship tournament wins last weekend when he won 14 consecutive matches in the process of winning those events. The two triumphs also increased his tally to three tournament wins in the last four ranking tournaments having also won Players Championship 9 the previous weekend.

Peter Wright has much to do if he is to push himself into contention for a top four finish with so many players also in the mix and Wright three points off the pace. It really has been a frustrating Premier League season for Snakebite with only two wins from 11 matches and too many below-par performances across those. Wright did show some encouraging signs last week in his defeat against Cross but consistency has been an issue and it is hard to know what kind of performance we will see from him. James Wade has struggled for wins during his last six Premier League matches with only a victory against Michael Smith to show for his efforts, but he is still in a strong position in the league table and his confidence will be sky high following back-to-back tournament wins last weekend. There has not been much to separate Wright and Wade across their previous career meetings with Wade having won one more game than Wright over their 36 past encounters, they shared a 6-6 draw earlier on this season when they met on night seven and this match is tipped to end in a draw also.
