All-time meetings
: Gerwyn Price 2-3 Rob Cross
Previous meeting: Gerwyn Price 6-3 Rob Cross

  • Gerwyn Price’s unbeaten start to the 2019 Premier League season ended last week when he was defeated 7-2 by Michael van Gerwen. With that defeat, he dropped out of the top four, but only on leg difference.
  • Price wasn’t without chances against Van Gerwen; he had the first dart at double in six of the nine legs played but a 20% checkout success percentage was his downfall.
  • Last Saturday at Players Championship 7, he reached his fifth consecutive ranking tournament semi-final, where he was eventually defeated by Daryl Gurney. On Sunday at Players Championship 8, he suffered a second-round exit at the hands of Andy Boulton.

  • Rob Cross has won each of his last three Premier League matches and is level on points with league leader Michael van Gerwen (Cross is edged into second place on legs won against the throw). Last week in Nottingham, he enjoyed a convincing 7-3 win against Raymond van Barneveld.
  • Voltage averaged 101.21 against Barney and overall he tops the tournament average table in the Premier League with an average of 101.29 across his opening six matches. His tournament checkout percentage of 45% is bettered only by James Wade.
  • Cross had a run to the last 16 at Players Championship 7 last Saturday where he was defeated by Dave Chisnall. He pulled out of Sunday’s tournament through illness, although this was nothing major as he just opted to rest due to feeling under the weather.

Both of these players are free of any elimination worries and are setting their sights on a top four place having started the campaign strongly with only one defeat each during the 2019 Premier League season (with world number one Michael van Gerwen the only man to defeat them both). Of the two players, Rob Cross has certainly been showing the higher level of performance having averaged over 101 in five of his six matches whereas Price has only recorded a single ton-plus average. Although Cross did pull out of a ranking tournament on Sunday as he was feeling under the weather, it shouldn’t be anything that will hold him back in this match and he is tipped to hand Price his second consecutive defeat of the Premier League season.
