  • Michael van Gerwen reached the final with what was an admittedly underwhelming 10-7 win over Daryl Gurney. The world number one averaged 96.48 in defeating the Northern Irishman in a match where both players struggled to find a rhythm.
  • The Dutchman is through to the Premier League final for the seventh consecutive year and is aiming to win the title for the fourth time in succession and fifth time overall.
  • MVG has never averaged under 102 in his six previous Premier League final appearances, and last year he posted an average of 112 in defeating Michael Smith to win the title.

  • Rob Cross reached the final with a 10-5 victory over James Wade, with the 2018 world champion averaging 100.31 in defeating the 2009 Premier League winner.
  • Voltage is through to his first Premier League final in only his second season in the competition. Last year he lost in the semi-finals to Michael van Gerwen.
  • He is aiming to win his first PDC tournament since August 2018 when he defeated Michael van Gerwen 11-6 to win the Brisbane Masters. This is only his third appearance in a final since that triumph, with the Englishman losing in the final of the UK Open and the European Darts Open both in March of this year.

It’s perhaps a fitting finale as the top two players in the league phase battle it out for the 2019 Premier League title. Michael van Gerwen is no stranger to the final having won the tournament four times and also having participated in the showpiece match in every season since making his tournament debut in 2013. The undisputed world number one has of course been defeated twice in the final – once by Raymond van Barneveld and once by Gary Anderson – and he also had to survive multiple match darts against Peter Wright two years ago. Last year though he produced a mesmerising standard of darts to defeat Michael Smith which serves as a reminder of what he is capable of on the big occasion and he deservedly starts as the favourite.

Rob Cross has enjoyed an excellent Premier League campaign whatever happens in this match. He has again highlighted what a force he is to be reckoned with and he shouldn’t be overwhelmed in playing in his first Premier League final having already won a world title. Voltage has tasted victory against Van Gerwen on the biggest of stages with a win in their epic semi-final encounter at the 2018 World Championship, but since that match Van Gerwen has won seven of their eight meetings which includes two big wins in the league phase of this season's Premier League, where he looked out-of-sorts on both occasions. MVG should have too much for Cross again here and expect the Dutchman to claim his fifth Premier League title.
