THE LOWDOWN

HEAD-TO-HEAD
All-time meetings:
Daryl Gurney 7-14 Peter Wright (3 draws)
Previous meeting: Peter Wright 6-3 Daryl Gurney

DARYL GURNEY

  • Daryl Gurney is without a win in his last three Premier League matches having lost two and drawn one of those three matches. Last week he was defeated by Mensur Suljovic and is now two points adrift of the play-off places.
  • Gurney hit only 21% of his attempts at doubles against Suljovic and of the remaining eight players left in the tournament he has the lowest tournament checkout percentage.
  • He was defeated 6-5 in the last 16 of the German Darts Grand Prix on Monday by Rob Cross in a high-quality encounter where Gurney averaged just under 102 with Cross recording a very impressive average of 110.98.

PETER WRIGHT

  • Peter Wright has seen his hopes of a play-off place slip away due to a seven-match winless run since defeating Van Barneveld on night five. Snakebite is now five points adrift of the top four with only four matches to play.
  • Last week in Cardiff he lost 8-2 to James Wade with a season’s low average of 85.48 it was the third time in five matches that he has averaged in the 80s.
  • Wright’s disappointing form continued on Sunday at the German Darts Grand Prix where he lost to Ross Smith in his first match of the tournament.

THE PREDICTION

This is a match Daryl Gurney may have to take two points from if he is to make it into the play-offs. The Northern Irishman has had a couple of blips recently to halt his momentum and he needs to pick up a win to get back on track or risk losing ground on the players ahead of him. Peter Wright’s Premier League campaign continues to flounder with too many poor performances thrown in from the Scotsman which is disappointing from a player capable of so much more. Gurney has struggled for wins against Wright in recent times with no wins during their last six meetings, which includes three draws in the Premier League, and although Gurney isn’t playing at the top of his game, he is capable of breaking that streak by winning this encounter.
