All-time meetings:
Daryl Gurney 4-4 James Wade
Previous meeting: Daryl Gurney 6-3 James Wade

  • Daryl Gurney suffered his heaviest ever Premier League defeat last Thursday night when he was destroyed 7-1 by Rob Cross. Superchin was well below par and finished with a match average of 90.35.
  • Gurney sits at the bottom of the charts for 180s hit in the 2019 Premier League with a meagre total of seven hit during the first four weeks – a big surprise considering no player managed more 180s in the 2018 Premier League than the Northern Irishman.
  • Last weekend at the UK Open he lost 10-9 to Michael Smith in the last 32, and since winning the Players Championship Finals in November he has failed to get further than the last 32 in each of the last eight successive ranking tournaments.

  • James Wade enjoyed a fantastic 7-3 win against the world number one Michael van Gerwen last week in Exeter. Wade won five consecutive legs from 3-2 down to become the first man to defeat MVG in this year’s Premier League.
  • His average of 95.65 against Van Gerwen was actually his lowest match average in the 2019 Premier League, while his Dutch opponent averaged a mere 94.33.
  • He had a disappointing 10-7 defeat against Ross Smith in the last 16 at the UK Open last weekend. At that stage of the tournament, Wade was the only previous winner of the event left in the competition.

Daryl Gurney and James Wade enter this week on the back of very contrasting results last time out with Gurney suffering a heavy defeat and Wade triumphing against the formidable Michael van Gerwen. It was a surprise to see Gurney play like he did last week as he had performed to a consistent level in the opening three weeks and one would expect a big improvement. Wade has played well in all four of his matches so far and is sure to be full of belief having claimed the scalp of MVG.

This is their first ever Premier League meeting and there is nothing between them in the head-to-head record with both having won four of their previous eight encounters – including one win each on TV. With such a close record, we could be in-line for a very tight match and it would certainly not be a surprise if this ended in a 6-6 draw.
