Head Coach: Wayne Bennett

Starting 13: Johnston, Allan, Turner, Gagai, Graham, Walker, Reynolds, G. Burgess, Cook, T. Burgess, Sutton, S. Burgess, Murray – Interchanges: Tatola, Nicholls, Lowe, Knight – Reserves: Gagan, Tracey, Britt, Hiroti

  • South Sydney held on to claim a slender win over Penrith last week as the Rabbitohs continued their impressive start to the season as they improved their record to 6-1 for the year.

  • Cody Walker added his seventh try of the season for the Rabbitohs as he jointly-leads the try scoring chart through Round 7 with his career-best form leading to calls that he should come into contention for State of Origin selection.

  • Head coach Wayne Bennett has again selected the same 17 to take the field this week with no changes to the line-up other than George Burgess selected in the run-on side but will likely swap places with Junior Tatola on the bench as has happened over the last month.

Head Coach: Anthony Seibold

Starting 13: Boyd, Oates, Roberts, Bird, Isaako, Milford, Dearden, Lodge, McCullough, Haas, Glenn, Gillett, Pangai Jnr. – Interchanges: Staggs, Fifita, Flegler, Ofahengaue – Reserves: Carrigan, Shibasaki, Su’a, O’Sullivan

Unavailable: Kodi Nikorima

  • Brisbane secured just their second win of the season as they proved too good for an injury-hit Cronulla side with Anthony Milford the star and they must now try and build on that against South Sydney.

  • The Broncos thought they had come through the game with the Sharks unscathed but Kodi Nikorima has suffered a calf injury and will sit out the game with rookie Thomas Dearden set to make his debut in the halves.

  • Nikorima could well have played his last game for Brisbane after New Zealand Warriors tabled an offer for him to join them with immediate effect and his move could be sealed within the next week.

South Sydney host Brisbane in one of the most eagerly anticipated games of the season following the off-season coaching drama that occurred between the two clubs. Wayne Bennett and Anthony Seibold effectively swapped teams and that story will form the backdrop to this contest. Souths improved to 6-1 as they edged out Penrith last week but will face a tough task here with a fired-up Brisbane the visitors. The Broncos claimed just their second win of the year against Cronulla last week and will need to build on that to climb up the ladder but it’s the home side that can edge it.
