Head Coach: Nathan Brown

Starting 13: Ponga, Lee, Hunt, Ramien, Kenny-Dowall, Lino, Pearce, Klemmer, Levi, Gavet, Fitzgibbon, Mata’utia, Glasby – Interchanges: Mann, Guerra, D. Saifiti, Barnett – Reserves: King, Watson, Ese’ese, Moga

Unavailable: Slade Griffin, Jacob Saifiti

  • Newcastle suffered a golden point defeat against St. George as Mitchell Pearce failed to hit the target with a couple of field-goal attempts before Corey Norman’s effort sealed it for the Dragons.

  • The Knights looked a lot better in attack this week with Kalyn Ponga chiming in from fullback and he will retain the #1 jersey with Mason Lino and Pearce set to continue in the halves although Connor Watson will be pushing for a recall.

  • James Gavet has made a quick recovery from a sternum injury and will line-up at prop with Tim Glasby reverting to lock as the Knights go for size from the off, with Mitch Barnett coming off the bench and Josh King dropping out.

Head Coach: Des Hasler

Starting 13: Elliot, Taufua, Suli, Parker, Garrick, Elgey, Cherry-Evans, Fonua-Blake, Koroisau, Taupau, Thompson, Sironen, J. Trbojevic – Interchanges: Fainu, Gosiewski, Waddell, Sipley – Reserves: Hodkinson, Croker, Tanginoa, Paseka

Unavailable: Albert Hopoate, Dylan Walker, Tom Trbojevic

  • Manly won their second consecutive game as they defeated South Sydney in a tense affair that was settled in golden point but an injury copped last week by one of their key men marred the win.

  • The Sea Eagles suffered a huge blow with the news that gun fullback Tom Trbojevic will be out for at least six weeks with a hamstring injury and he will leave a huge void in the Manly side.

  • He is replaced by Brendan Elliot at fullback and that opens the door for a return to the side for Moses Suli who was dropped for disciplinary reasons last week and he will line-up in the centres.

Both of these teams had different fortunes in golden point last week, with Manly beating South Sydney whilst Newcastle were edged by St. George. Manly will be missing Tom Trbojevic and without his attacking prowess, the home side could get back to winning ways. Manly are always a different side with Trbojevic in the team and his loss is felt greatly with few players as influential to their side as he is. Newcastle have a tough run of games coming up and must get points on the board to stay in contention for the top 8 but they can edge this.
