Head Coach: Garth Brennan

Starting 13: Gordon, Don, Peachey, Kelly, Copley, Roberts, Taylor, Boyd, Rein, James, Proctor, Cartwright, Arrow – Interchanges: Sami, Hipgrave, King, Whitbread – Reserves: Fotuaika, Stockwell, Arthars, Jacks

Unavailable: Will Matthews, Nathan Peats, Jarrod Wallace, AJ Brimson

  • Gold Coast claimed their first victory of the season as they defeated Penrith last week and will be looking to make it back-to-back wins as they host another side who have endured a tough start to the season.

  • Ash Taylor suffered a knee injury last week but thankfully for the Titans half, he has avoided serious injury and is a surprise inclusion in the line-up for this week’s game against Newcastle.

  • Jarrod Wallace is out for two weeks through suspension but the return of Shannon Boyd provides the Titans with a ready-made replacement to fill the void whilst AJ Brimson is also out with a broken thumb with his place on the bench taken by Phillip Sami.

Head Coach: Nathan Brown

Starting 13: Ponga, Lee, Hunt, Ramien, Kenny-Dowall, Lino, Pearce, Klemmer, Levi, Gavet, Fitzgibbon, Barnett, Glasby – Interchanges: Watson, Ese’ese, D. Saifiti, King – Reserves: Mata’utia, Buher, Jones, Moga

Unavailable: Slade Griffin, Jacob Saifiti, Aidan Guerra

  • Newcastle made it four consecutive defeats as their defence let them down in a shoddy performance against Manly last week and another loss here against Gold Coast could be a disaster for the Knights.

  • The Knights will be without Aidan Guerra for a prolonged period after the second-rower suffered a fractured and dislocated ankle and his place on the bench is filled by Herman Ese’ese this week.

  • With 11 tries so far this season, Newcastle have scored the fewest in the NRL and will need to find a way to cross the whitewash more frequently if they are to start picking up the wins they need to climb the ladder.

Gold Coast won their first game of the year with a good victory over Penrith and with another home game to follow, they will believe they can go back-to-back. With Ash Taylor seemingly avoiding injury following a big scare last week, he can lead his side to another victory on home soil. Both of these teams have struggled to score points so far this season but something has to give here and with the Titans fresh off a win last week, they can build off the back of that game to claim another two points.
