THE TEAM NEWS

CANADA

  • Canada were involved in a fascinating game with hosts Slovakia as Mark Stone scored with just 1.8 seconds left to steal the win having trailed 2-0 and 4-2 to make it back-to-back wins for the Canadians.

  • After losing to Finland in their opening contest, Canada bounced back with an 8-0 thrashing of Great Britain before the 6-5 win over Slovakia but will need to improve further over the coming games.

  • The Canadians have suffered an injury blow with defenceman Brandon Montour ruled out for the rest of the competition with a lower-body injury but they have been able to add Philadelphia Flyers’ Philippe Myers to their roster.

FRANCE

  • France have yet to win a game in this year’s competition after three successive defeats, with Germany the latest side to see them off in what has been a tough start and will need to pick up a win soon if they are to avoid relegation.

  • After going down in overtime in their opening game against Denmark, the French have only managed two goals in total in their next two matches in heavy defeats to the USA (7-1) and then Germany (4-1).

  • France will need to improve several aspects of their game if they are to avoid relegation but one of their main issues at the minute comes in the form of their goaltending as they possess the second lowest percentage in terms of saves from shots on goal.

THE PREDICTION

Canada have yet to hit their straps and will be looking to use this contest against France to find some consistency before they face tougher contests in their coming matches. France have yet to win a game in this year’s competition and that run will continue here. France will be unable to pose enough problems for Canada and if the Canadians are in the mood, they could cause some serious problems in front of goal.
