Coach: Mohammad Salahuddin

Captain: Tamim Iqbal

  • The champions in 2015 fell at the semi-final stage last year and will be hoping to progress yet even further this year as they have the second-best win ratio in Bangladesh Premier League history.

  • Sri Lankan duo Asela Gunaratne and Thisara Perera are both on international duty so miss out in this opening game while Steve Smith misses the first week so they can choose four overseas’ players from Evin Lewis, Liam Dawson, Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi and Aamer Yamin.

  • Tamim Iqbal is their captain and he will be supported by Imrul Kayes and the two locals are supported by Mohammad Saifuddin who was one of the revelations with the ball in the last edition and he will be key for them once again.

Coach: Waqar Younis

Captain: David Warner

  • Sylhet Sixers have an impressive array of talent on their roster but they come into the new Bangladesh Premier League with the lowest win ratio of any team in BPL history so they have low expectations coming into this opener.

  • The spotlight will be on controversial captain David Warner right from the start and he may struggle given the lack time in the middle but his opening partnership with Liton Das has plenty of promise and potential.

  • Star spinner Sandeep Lamichhane is available after departing BBL08 duty with Melbourne Stars to join the team while they can count on Nicholas Pooran and Andre Fletcher who have been in stunning form in T10 and T20 recently.

So much will depend on who can carry some form into this opening match but similarly which star players are available for each team. Both teams are packed with quality but the edge may go with the Comilla Victorians here. They have the better local players within their ranks and that may be key in the early stages of the tournament as some of the foreign stars get to grips with conditions in Dhaka.
