All-time meetings: Comilla Victorians W5, Rangpur Riders W3
Last meeting: Rangpur Riders beat Comilla Victorians by 36 runs

Coach: Mohammad Salahuddin

Captain: Steve Smith

  • The Victorians kicked off their BPL campaign with a win against Sylhet Sixers as they successfully chased 127/8 but it needed a cameo innings by veteran Shahid Afridi of 39 runs from 25 balls to win with just one ball to spare.

  • It was the bowling that was key to their victory outside of Afridi’s innings as they made it difficult for the Sixers with Mohammad Saifuddin showing he is capable of repeating his superb performances from the last edition with his 2/13 but it was a strong all-round performance from the whole unit.

  • Despite the victory, there is still plenty of room for improvement in the batting department especially as only Tamim Iqbal and Shahid Afridi produced the goods but they can expect more from the likes of Lewis, Smith, Imrul Kayes and Shoaib Malik, and they may go unchanged here unless Shoaib Malik is rotated out for one of their other big name overseas players like Liam Dawson.

Coach: Tom Moody

Captain: Mashrafe Mortaza

  • Rangpur Riders were the only team in the BPL to play twice in the first round of matches and they managed to bounce back from a miserable first game against the Chittagong Vikings to beat Khulna Titans by eight runs in a tight match.

  • Chris Gayle is in Dhaka and should be available to play this match so that will leave the Riders with a big decision to make as to which overseas player will make way for him and it will likely be Alex Hales or Benny Howell as Rilee Rossouw and Ravi Bopara have been in excellent form in the opening matches.

  • Despite the inconsistent performances so far, the bowlers especially have shown great heart in defending the total against the Titans and almost pulling off the miracle of defending 99 in their match against the Vikings so they will hope that impressive form can continue.

Neither of these teams have played anywhere close to their potential in their opening matches and there is plenty to come from both teams. The Riders may benefit from having played the extra game to get up to speed but this Victorians team looks incredibly strong all round. This match will likely depend on which top order can set the foundations early in the innings, and while there is a marginal preference overall for the Victorians, there really is little to choose between these two teams.
