  • Two-time winner Novak Djokovic begins his US Open campaign as the outright favourite amongst many bookies to lift the trophy come September 9th and few would argue with that assessment given that he has beaten his two main rivals in Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer recently.
  • After winning Wimbledon in July, the Serb then became the first player to complete the full set of ATP 1000 Masters titles when he won in Cincinnati earlier this month, so he is full of confidence coming into Flushing Meadows and playing his best tennis again after a turbulent couple of years on tour.
  • Djokovic missed last year's US Open to recover from his elbow injury but prior to that, he had reached at least the semi-finals in New York every year from 2007 onwards.

  • Fucsovics is enjoying his best year on tour having broken into the world's top 50 and made progress in the Grand Slams, having reached the fourth round in Australia and second round in Paris.
  • The Hungarian also claimed the first ATP title of his career this year, recording the notable scalp of Stan Wawrinka along the way to winning the 250-rated Geneva Open back in May.
  • Fucsovics has never faced Djokovic before but now has experience of playing a top player on show courts in Grand Slams having met Roger Federer in the fourth round of the Australian Open in January.

There is no doubt now that Djokovic is playing top-level tennis again after claiming the Wimbledon title in July and winning in Cincinnati earlier this month. He appears to have regained the focus and motivation that led to him dominating the game in the past and he will look to kick on now and increase his Grand Slam tally.

Fucsovics has made big strides this year having broken into the top 50 and can be expected to compete well, but he doesn't yet possess the weapons to seriously trouble an in-form Djokovic and should ultimately succumb to the tournament favourite. Djokovic in straight sets.
