Statistics do not take into account each player's first match of the evening.
Raymond van Barneveld 11-8 Peter Wright (4 draws)
RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD
Raymond van Barneveld will come to the stage for this game having already faced Daryl Gurney in the first match of the evening. Prior to his encounter against Gurney he suffered 7-2 and 7-0 defeats in his last two Premier League matches
Barney starts the evening two points outside the top four and two points ahead of Peter Wright. A four-point haul from the evening would certainly keep him in contention for the play-offs but two defeats would give him an uphill task.
Barney enjoyed a comprehensive 7-1 victory over Wright when they met on night seven of the 2018 Premier League – that result ended a run of five matches without a win against Wright in the Premier League. He also defeated Wright as recently as last Sunday when they met at a Players Championship tournament.
Prior to this match, Peter Wright will have faced Gary Anderson earlier in the evening. A defeat in that match combined with results elsewhere could leave Wright at least five points off the play-off places, whereas a win coupled with other results could mean he is just a point outside the top four.
He averaged only 88 when he was defeated 7-1 by Barney three weeks ago on night seven of the 2018 Premier League.
Wright has lost each of his last three matches against Van Barneveld. All of those games have been played during 2018 – the aggregate total of legs won in the three matches is Van Barneveld 23-7 Wright.
This is the second match of the evening for both players so results in the earlier matches may have some impact on their confidence and performance. Regardless of the earlier results, it’s a very crucial match for them both as they try to keep alive their play-off hopes and it’s a game neither can really afford to lose. Barney demolished Wright three weeks ago and had another win over him last Sunday so that could give him some kind of edge. Realistically, it’s a very tough game to call though; they have drawn four times previously in the Premier League (once each season) and this could be draw number five.
