Mensur Suljovic 4-8 Michael van Gerwen

  • Suljovic defeated Gerwyn Price 7-3 last week in Berlin to pick up his first win in the Premier League at the fourth attempt, having lost his opening three matches of the campaign. Suljovic took control of the match against Price from the start, winning the opening leg against the throw and he never looked back in what was a dominant performance.
  • His match average against Price was 106.2, which was the highest overall on the night. His overall tournament average of 101.15 is second only to Michael van Gerwen’s tournament average in the 2018 Premier League.
  • Suljovic had a very impressive checkout percentage of 64% in his win over Price. His tournament checkout percentage of 44.2% is the third highest of all ten Premier League competitors.

  • World number one Michael van Gerwen demolished Daryl Gurney 7-2 last week to make it three wins from four matches played in the 2018 Premier League. In his opening four matches he has faced the players ranked 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th in the PDC Order of Merit, and now he faces the player ranked 6th.
  • Van Gerwen averaged 103.4 in his win over Gurney, meaning he has now averaged over 100 in each of his last 27 TV matches. He has also won 39 out of the 41 matches he has played during 2018.
  • Although he is second in the league, Van Gerwen tops most of the 2018 Premier League stats tables, including tournament average and tournament checkout percentage. In addition, he also has the highest first nine dart average.

Michael van Gerwen looked in imperious form again last week during his comprehensive victory over Daryl Gurney. He is scoring heavily and finishing clinically and looking determined to take what he feels is his rightful spot at the top of the table. Mensur Suljovic has averaged over 100 in three of his four Premier League matches and his win last week will have given him a huge lift of confidence. Suljovic did defeat Van Gerwen in their last meeting which was last September in a regular tour event, but their last two encounters on the big TV stage have both gone the way of Van Gerwen with Mighty Mike winning a combined total of 22 legs to five across that pair of matches.

Suljovic has the ability to push Van Gerwen hard but the form Van Gerwen is showing suggests he will rise to the challenge and step his game up a level if required. Expect a valiant effort from the Austrian but it is unlikely to be enough to stop the Green Machine from taking the victory.
