Gerwyn Price 1-4 Raymond van Barneveld
Price was well beaten by Mensur Suljovic in Berlin two weeks ago and is one of two players who are still looking for their first win of the Premier League season. Price has two draws and two defeats from his opening four matches.
His match average of 90.87 against Suljovic was his lowest of the Premier League season so far. Price has the second lowest tournament average and he is the only player to have a first nine dart tournament average of under 100.
Poor starts to matches have been a big problem for Price during the Premier League. He has trailed after six legs in all four of his matches, and the overall aggregate of legs won and lost across the first six legs in those matches has seen Price win five legs compared to his opponents who have won 19 legs.
RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD
Raymond van Barneveld produced a disappointing display in his 7-3 defeat against Rob Cross two weeks ago in Berlin. Barney has now lost each of his last two Premier League matches and has won only six of his last 14 matches in all competitions.
His average against Cross was a lowly 88.6 which was in fact his lowest Premier League match average since 2015. Further proof that his overall scoring against Cross was very poor is highlighted by his first nine dart average of 91 and he also failed to hit a 180 during the match.
In terms of finishing, Barney has the second lowest tournament checkout percentage in the league, as he has hit just 33.9% of his double attempts.
Gerwyn Price has had a tough start to life in the Premier League, and although he has salvaged a couple of points from drawn matches it goes without saying he needs to win matches if he is to avoid elimination. Price produced some positive performances on his way to reaching the UK Open quarter-finals last weekend so that could give him some confidence coming into this match.
Barney suffered an early exit against Mervyn King at the UK Open and it is hard to know what to expect from him. He started 2018 well by reaching the final of the Unibet Masters but since then his form has been patchy and certainly not at the high level expected of the Dutch legend.
Raymond van Barneveld is capable of playing at a higher standard than Price and has won four of their five previous meetings; their most recent encounter was in February at a UK Open qualifier when Barney had a comfortable 6-1 victory. Expect a closer match this time out with a tight game just going the way of the Dutchman.
