Daryl Gurney 7-11 Peter Wright

  • Daryl Gurney comes into this week on the back of consecutive Premier League wins having followed up his victory over Mensur Suljovic with a 7-5 win over Rob Cross last week in Belfast to move within a point of the play-off places.
  • Gurney maintained his position at the top of the 180 hitting charts in the Premier League by hitting an incredible total of nine maximums during his win over Cross. Overall, Gurney has hit 37 scores of 180 during this year’s Premier League - seven more than his closest rival Gary Anderson.
  • Although his finishing has improved a little during his Premier League campaign, he only hit 29% of his double attempts against Cross and his tournament checkout percentage is just 31.7%.

  • Peter Wright had to come back from 6-3 down last week against Simon Whitlock to earn a draw. He had gone into the game in ninth place in the table having lost 7-1 in three consecutive Premier League matches.
  • The crucial point he picked up against Whitlock moved him above the elimination zone and ensures his survival chances are in his own hands. A win in this match will ensure he avoids elimination, and a draw might also be enough providing Mensur Suljovic doesn’t defeat Michael van Gerwen.
  • Wright continued his upturn in form last weekend at the German Darts Grand Prix where he reached the final only to lose to Michael van Gerwen. It was his second ranking tournament final appearance in as many weeks.

Daryl Gurney eased any concerns he might have had about elimination by winning his last two Premier League matches and he can now concentrate on making a push for a play-off place. Although Peter Wright has a lead in their head-to-head record it is Gurney who has enjoyed success most recently with four wins in a row against Snakebite and that will surely give him belief ahead of this match.

Peter Wright has seen an upturn in results and form over the last two weekends where he has reached ranking tournament finals in consecutive tournaments, but he still may have work to do to confirm his place in the Premier League for the rest of the 2018 season and he also needs a win to avoid being cut adrift from the play-off places. He really needs to put together a run of victories to stay competitive, especially as a defeat here would leave him five points behind Daryl Gurney.

Snakebite has certainly seen his confidence and belief return following some good performances away from the Premier League. Gurney’s confidence should be excellent on the back of some positive results too so it should have the makings for a top-quality match-up that could well go all the way to a final leg with nothing to split them.
