Head Coach: Ivan Cleary

Starting 13: Thompson, Nofoaluma, Marsters, Naiqama, Watene-Zelezniak, Marshall, Brooks, Packer, Godinet, Matulino, Lawrence, Rochow, Eisenhuth – Interchanges: McIlwrick, Twal, Chee Kam, Aloiai – Reserves: Gamble, Sue, Grant, Milne

Unavailable: Jacob Liddle, Josh Reynolds, Tuimoala Lolohea, Elijah Taylor

  • Wests Tigers produced another shock as they defeated reigning Premiers Melbourne Storm at AAMI Park. For the second week running, the Tigers scored a late try to win by eight points to 10.
  • Ivan Clearly’s side will attempt to maintain their 100% start to the season without Elijah Taylor with the influential lock missing out with a hamstring injury. Matt Eisenhuth starts in his place with Michael Chee Kam coming onto the bench.
  • The loss of Taylor is a big one for Wests with him leaving big shoes to fill. One of five co-captains this season, the Tigers must attempt to fill the void of the man who has topped their tackle chart in both games so far this season with Taylor totalling 101 tackles so far.

Head Coach: Wayne Bennett

Starting 13: Boyd, Oates, Roberts, Opacic, Isaako, Milford, Nikorima, Lodge, McCullough, Pangai Jnr, Glenn, Gillett, McGuire – Interchanges: Thaiday, Ofahengaue, Sims, Su’A – Reserves: Tagataese, Bird, Pearson, Murphy

Unavailable: Andre Savelio, Jordan Kahu

  • Brisbane bounced back from their disappointing opening day defeat to St George with a solid display against North Queensland. The Broncos survived a late scare to claim a 24-20 victory.
  • Jordan Kahu suffered a sickening broken jaw last week and will be out of action for a prolonged period. Tom Opacic is named to take his place but Jack Bird could make his club debut if he can prove his fitness.
  • Brisbane made 369 tackles in their win last week which was all the more impressive as the Cowboys made just 298. Despite making 73 tackles more than their opponents, the equivalent of just over 12 sets, the Broncos held on for their first win of the season.

Several teams have caused shocks at the start of the 2018 NRL season but arguably none more so than Wests Tigers. They have defeated Sydney Roosters and Melbourne Storm in successive weeks and are handed a stern test yet again as they host Brisbane. The Broncos needed the aid of the uprights against the Cowboys with Scott Bolton losing possession as he looked to go over for a try that would have cost Brisbane the win. However, they got their reward for some resolute defence which will be needed again to keep out the plucky Tigers but they should get the win here.
