  • South Sydney produced a superb performance last week as they comfortably beat New Zealand Warriors at Mt Smart. The Rabbitohs went behind in the fourth minute but were dominant from that point on as they scored 30 unanswered points before a late consolation try left the full-time score at 10-30.

  • Souths have been hit hard by State of Origin call-ups with Greg Inglis and Dane Gagai to represent Queensland whilst Angus Crichton and Damien Cook will take the field for New Souths Wales. Adam Doueihi slots in at fullback with Braidon Burns and Hymel Hunt lining up in the centres. Robbie Farah is named at hooker for his first appearance of the season with Tyrell Fuimaono coming onto the bench following a long injury lay-off.

  • The Rabbitohs have scored 50 tries this season, five more than St George with the second-highest. They’ve also broken the line more than any other side this season with six in last week’s game taking their total to 60.

Head Coach: Shane Flanagan

Starting 13: Dugan, Feki, Ramien, Leutele, Lee, Moylan, Townsend, Fifita, Brailey, Prior, Lewis, Graham, Gallen – Interchanges: Paulo, Segeyaro, Seumanufagai, Bukuya – Reserves: Capewell, Williams, Katoa, Sorensen

Unavailable: Valentine Holmes

  • Cronulla’s fine form continued as they made it six wins on the trot against Newcastle last week as they sealed a comprehensive victory. The Sharks ran in nine tries as they proved far too good for the Knights, claiming a 10-48 win.

  • The Sharks have a fully fit squad to choose from other than Valentine Holmes, who will line up for Queensland in Origin. Sosaia Feki takes his place on the wing.

  • Cronulla dominated across the board last week and posted some impressive figures. They made eight line breaks as well as breaking 37 tackles. They also made 1,742 running metres, over 500 more than the Knights managed.

In this reduced set of fixtures because of it being the first week of byes, this game is the real eye-catcher of Round 13. Third-placed South Sydney have had their squad ripped apart by Origin call-ups and will hope the players coming into the side can maintain Souths’ good form against another in-form side, fourth-placed Cronulla. The Sharks have a fully fit squad to choose from other than Valentine Holmes as they look for a seventh consecutive win. Both teams were impressive in their victories last week but with the amount of changes that the Rabbitohs have had to make to their side, their four-match winning run is likely to come to an end against the Sharks.
