Coach: Ashwell Prince

Captain: Quinton de Kock

  • Newlands will host the historic opening Mzansi Super League match and the home side Cape Town Blitz will be desperate to produce a strong display to kick start their campaign in impressive fashion.

  • They are however seriously hindered by their lack of international stars as Quinton de Kock, Farhaan Behardien, Andile Phehlukwayo and Dale Steyn are all unavailable for this first match as they remain on international duty in Australia with the South African national team.

  • That was evident in a warm-up match against Paarl Rocks as they fell short with both bat and ball, but Dawid Malan was the one bright spot producing a masterful knock with the bat, but they will need some of their younger talents to step up here.

Coach: Mark Boucher

Captain: AB de Villiers

  • Tshwane Spartans looked hugely impressive in their warm-up match against Jozi Stars on Tuesday so they come into this opening match of the Mzansi Super League with great confidence and buoyed by having legend AB de Villiers as skipper.

  • They have their own absentees through international call-ups as fast bowler Ngidi is with South Africa and Sean Williams and Sikandar Raza are with Zimbabwe, but they still have plenty of quality in their ranks to survive their absences here.

  • Ab de Villiers, Eoin Morgan and Dean Elgar will provide a strong core to the batting line-up here along with the talented Ben Duckett, while locals such as Rory Kleinveldt and Robbie Frylinck offer great bowling options for them.

The start of the Mzansi Super League is somewhat blighted by the fact that there are numerous international players that are absent. Cape Town are particularly affected and that should benefit Tshwane Spartans here. They have the greater strength and depth in their ranks and they should kick off the tournament with a comprehensive win in this historic opener. De Villiers, Morgan and Elgar will have far too much firepower with the bat, so barring any rust affecting their performance, they should canter to victory at Newlands.
