Iran picked up only their second World Cup finals victory ever by beating Morocco thanks to a late own goal to hand them a 1-0 win but that flattered them somewhat and they face an entirely different proposition here.
After a difficult opening 15 minutes in that game, they settled into the match well and were not overawed by the big occasion as they showed good discipline and organisation, but that was against an average Moroccan side that was short on quality and creativity.
Taremi is a candidate to come into the side but the likelihood is that Quieroz will name an unchanged starting 11 once again as a reward for the Morocco win, but they will need to raise their game to another level to have any chance here.
Predicted line-up (4-4-1-1):
Rezaeian, Cheshmi, Pouraliganji, Hajsafi
Jahanbakhsh, Amiri, Ebrahimi, Ansarifard
Spain were thwarted by a stunning late free kick by Cristiano Ronaldo but they will not be disheartened after an excellent performance with Isco especially in stunning form, and the likes of Diego Costa also shining.
David de Gea has come in for some criticism following his poor display and mistake for the second goal especially so he must improve even if his position does not seem to be under threat right now.
The likelihood is that Hierro sticks with the same 11 that started against Portugal with Nacho keeping his place after his wonder goal as Carvajal remains a doubt with his injury.
Predicted line-up (4-3-3):
Nacho, Sergio Ramos, Pique, Alba
Koke, Busquets, Iniesta
Isco, Diego Costa, David Silva
Spain will not be too disheartened by the late equaliser by Portugal and they showed plenty of quality in the performance to suggest the coach issues will not be a factor in this tournament. Expect a comprehensive victory in this one to get back on track against a valiant but average Iranian side, and they could well rack up the goals in this game.
