All-time meetings: Sydney Thunder W1, Brisbane Heat W7
Last meeting: Brisbane Heat beat Sydney Thunder by 6 wickets
THE TEAM NEWS
Coach: Shane Bond
Captain: Shane Watson
Sydney Thunder were comprehensively beaten by Melbourne Stars last time out by eight wickets which was the third defeat in their last four matches so they are under some pressure to get a positive result here and bounce back.
This will be their final match with England duo Jos Buttler and Joe Root and they will miss Buttler especially as he has been arguably the best batsmen in the first half of BBL08 and they will be keen to go out in style before they are replaced by Anton Devcich and Chris Jordan.
They have named an unchanged squad for this match and there is every chance that they will go unchanged for this game although they may contemplate a change in the bowling department after a flat performance against the Stars.
Coach: Daniel Vettori
Captain: Chris Lynn
Brisbane Heat finally got their BBL08 campaign underway on Saturday as they beat Perth Scorchers comfortably by five wickets and they will now be looking to kick on and string a run of results together.
They can welcome Marnus Labuschagne following test duty with Australia and he will be a massive boost to the team with both bat and ball, while it is Alex Ross who drops out of the squad for this match.
Chris Lynn continues to perform well with the bat and spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman has been a revelation but they desperately need Brendan McCullum to find some form with the bat to give them a platform to build on rather than rely on the middle order.
This is a crunch game for both teams as the Thunder have been struggling badly for form in recent games while the Heat have just won their first match and will look to move up the ladder now. Momentum is certainly with the Heat and they have an excellent record against the Thunder having won seven of their eight meetings with them. With Labuschagne back in the squad, that will give them a big boost and it could be the decisive factor for them to pick up a second win in Sydney.
