All-time meetings: Sydney Sixers W5, Melbourne Renegades W3
Last meeting: Sydney Sixers beat Melbourne Renegades by 33 runs
THE TEAM NEWS
Coach: Greg Shipperd
Captain: Moises Henriques
The Sixers are firmly in the hunt for a last four spot, currently sitting third in the standings despite a heavy seven wicket defeat to the Perth Scorchers in their last match on Sunday so they will look to bounce back here.
The hosts make one change from the squad that faced Perth, with spinner Lloyd Pope replacing opener Justin Avendano, who suffered an injury in the warm up at Optus Stadium, but the likelihood is that they name an unchanged side.
James Vince makes his home debut for Sydney after replacing fellow Englishman Joe Denly following his departure to join up with the England touring side in the West Indies, and he will be looking to make an impact in front of their home fans.
Coach: Andrew McDonald
Captain: Tom Cooper
The Renegades will be hoping to bounce back from an emphatic 101-run defeat against Brisbane Heat last time out but have the same number of points as the Sixers and remain firmly in the play-off picture.
Melbourne are given a big boost with the return of pace bowler Kane Richardson from a hamstring injury which forced him to sit out the last two games, with the side’s leading wicket taker coming in for Jon Holland, who is part of the Cricket Australia XI taking on the touring Sri Lankans in Hobart on Thursday.
The Renegades are once again without regular captain Aaron Finch due to his involvement in Australia’s one-day squad, with Tom Cooper instead taking the reins, and their batsmen will need to put in a much-improved display here.
A big game for both sides as the season edges towards the business end, with both knowing that victory would take them into second in the standings. The match is the first of five consecutive home games at the SCG for the Sixers and they can get this run off to the perfect start against a deflated Renegades team missing key player Finch.
