THE TEAM NEWS

PERTH SCORCHERS

Coach: Adam Voges

Captain: Mitchell Marsh

  • Perth Scorchers sit bottom of the BBL08 ladder having won just three of their nine matches and they will be desperate to get back to winning ways after losing to Hobart Hurricanes last time out by four wickets after winning their previous two.

  • They are forced into making several changes to their squad as Whiteman, Willey and Hardie have all picked up injuries and will miss out here but they welcome back their internationals with the Marsh brothers and Jason Behrendorff coming back in to strengthen their squad.

  • Paceman Liam Guthrie also comes into the squad as Jhye Richardson is in the Australian Test squad and his absence remains a loss, but they are notably strengthened overall compared to last time out.

SYDNEY THUNDER

Coach: Shane Bond

Captain: Shane Watson

  • Sydney Thunder sit just outside the top four places coming into this game and given how tight the ladder currently is, they will be keen to beat the Scorchers here as they have just four games remaining now.

  • They are forced into selecting their third wicket-keeper of the season as Jay Lenton is ruled out with a finger injury so Matt Gilkes is called up to the squad and that represents another downgrade from how they started the season with Jos Buttler in the side.

  • Arjun Nair and Jono Cook drop out of the squad for this match and are replaced by Nathan McAndrew and Baxter Holt but those two are likely to be the two that do not make the final eleven as the Thunder are unlikely to change too much from the team that lost to the Renegades last time out.

THE PREDICTION

The pressure is mounting on both of these teams to get a win to push them firmly back in contention for a top four place. Their recent form is somewhat similar overall with a couple of good performances prior to defeat last time out, but they both desperately need a win. The Scorchers are boosted by the return of three key internationals and that could very well be the decisive factor that sees the match tilt in their favour.
