All-time meetings: Sydney Sixers W6, Brisbane Heat 1

Coach: Greg Shipperd

Captain: Moises Henriques

  • The Sixers have looked like a completely different team in the last couple of matches and the influence of their new overseas stars Denly and Brathwaite along with the returning Lyon and Henriques has given them a much-needed boost after losing their opening six matches this season.
  • They are likely to name the same starting eleven players that beat the Melbourne Stars on Tuesday as they look to continue building some momentum and they will be desperate to get a result in front of their home fans against a Heat team that they have an excellent record against.
  • The batting line-up has looked incredibly strong in recent matches with the likes of Denly, Hughes and Maddinson in improving form, while Nathan Lyon was arguably their matchwinner against the Stars with his three wickets as they look strong in both departments right now.

Coach: Daniel Vettori

Captain: Brendon McCullum

  • Heat have lost back-to-back matches against the Hurricanes and that has put their final four place in jeopardy so they have no margin for error coming into this crunch match with the Sixers that they simply have to win.
  • They have called up experienced allrounder Jason Floros into the squad at the expense of bowler Cameron Gannon and he could make his debut in this competition and he is one of five slow bowlers in the 13-man squad.
  • The Heat will know they have to produce the goods with the bat at least as their bowling attack has struggled to defend some of their totals so far, and that means the likes of Cutting, Ross, Burns and Peirson stepping up to help captain McCullum score the runs in the continued absence of Chris Lynn.

This will be the Sixers’ third game in five days having picked up their first two wins in the previous games as they look a completely reinvigorated team right now. They have nothing to play for as they cannot reach the final four, unlike the Heat, but their form has been as good as any team in the last week of BBL07. The Heat have lost their last two matches and their weak bowling attack and absence of Chris Lynn is starting to be exposed. The Sixers have the edge here and should be favoured to damage the Heat’s hopes of reaching the final four.
