All-time meetings: Brisbane Heat W3, Perth Scorchers W5

Coach: Daniel Vettori

Captain: Brendon McCullum

  • The Heat bounced back from being bowled out for 91 by the Adelaide Strikers to dominated the Melbourne Stars with an outstanding batting performance to win by 9 wickets last time out so confidence is high coming into this game.
  • For this second capacity crowd in Brisbane, they make one change to their 13-man squad as bowler Josh Lalor has a thumb injury so batsman Marnus Labuschagne comes in for him, but Lalor missed the wins over the Stars so the starting eleven is likely to remain unchanged.
  • Chris Lynn and Brendan McCullum opened together for the first time so far in BBL07 last time against the Stars and produced the highest opening partnership of the tournament this season, so they will likely open again but face the best bowling attack in the league.

Coach: Justin Langer

Captain: Adam Voges

  • Perth Scorchers remain the only team in BBL07 with a 100% winning record after the Adelaide Strikers were beaten on Thursday but they face one of their toughest tests as they travel to face the Brisbane Heat.
  • They have decided to rest star bowler Mitchell Johnson here to manage his playing time while leg-spinner James Muirhead is ruled out with a hamstring strain but they do welcome back Ashton Agar which is a major boost and Joel Paris also comes into the 13-man squad.
  • The Scorchers are determined to rack up as many wins as possible before the likes of Andrew Tye and Jhye Richardson join the Australian ODI squad and David Willey joins up with England so their selections are going to be severely affected in the coming weeks.

The Scorchers have been on fire so far this season winning every game and that has largely been down to their hugely impressive bowling attack. They are however resting Mitch Johnson here to save him for later in the tournament and Muirhead is out so they are weakened somewhat which is not ideal when facing one of the most potent batting line-ups in the competition. Chris Lynn and Brendan McCullum showed signs of hitting top form last time out, and they should be able to outscore the Scorchers here and inflict their first defeat of BBL07.
