All-time meetings: Brisbane Heat W4, Hobart Hurricanes W6

Coach: Daniel Vettori

Captain: Brendon McCullum

  • The Heat come into this game in fourth spot just ahead of the Hurricanes so they are fully aware of the importance of this game against a direct rival for the top four places and they will be keen to string together a third consecutive win.
  • They have been dealt a blow by the loss of Chris Lynn who has a calf problem and is ruled out for up to three weeks so he will have to be replaced at the top of the order as McCullum’s partner and it reduces their firepower significantly.
  • Pace bowler Jack Prestwidge comes into the squad and the 22-year-old would be making his debut if selected and they may prefer a fifth bowler in the team rather than rely on Burns and Cutting to share four overs against a strong Hurricanes batting line-up.

Coach: Gary Kirsten

Captain: George Bailey

  • After losing their opening two matches, the Hurricanes have responded in perfect fashion, rattling off three consecutive victories to move up to fifth and within touching distance of the top where the Heat sit just above them.
  • They have named an unchanged squad for this match and it will likely be the same eleven that beat the Sixers on Monday in what is a relatively settled team right now, with all departments of the team in strong form and D’Arcy Short starring at the top of the batting order in particular.
  • Tymal Mills has been incredibly expensive in BBL07 so far but he did pick up two wickets against the Sixers which should give him confidence to support the West Indian star Jofra Archer who has been a revelation so far.

Chris Lynn is a massive loss for the Heat and they did notably feel his absence at the start of BBL07 so that could be the differentiating factor here. Not only do they miss the most feared batsman in the competition, but they have to change their batting order and it increases the pressure on the likes of Brendon McCullum. The Hurricanes are playing some excellent cricket after a slow start to the campaign with both their batting and bowling producing the goods. The loss of Lynn could very well just swing this game in their favour as they aim to go level on points with the Heat.
