Coach: Jason Gillespie

Captain: Travis Head

  • As many as five players could make their debut in Adelaide’s blue in Friday’s BBL07 clash with the Sydney Thunder with their star internationals Rashid Khan and Colin Ingram both set to play.
  • Much is expected of the pair with Afghan leg-spinner Rashid shining in recent T20 competitions and South African batsman Ingram earning a reputation as one of the biggest hitting batsman in this format of the game.
  • Along with those two, there is great pressure on captain Travis Head to deliver in his new role leading the side, which has seen various star players depart since last year including the likes of Ben Dunk, Chris Jordan, Brad Hodge, and Kieron Pollard.

Coach: Paddy Upton

Captain: Shane Watson

  • The Thunder got their campaign off to a fantastic start with a last ball victory chase against their city rivals, the Sydney Sixers, on the opening day and they will look to build on that for this trip to Adelaide.
  • They welcome back Callum Ferguson to the squad after a quadricep injury but the batsman may not be able to feature on his domestic home ground as he has not been passed fully fit so there is every chance that he will be held out here.
  • Ryan Gibson will be the batsman most under threat from Ferguson if he is passed fit but he will be keen to improve if he gets another chance, as will high profile international star Jos Buttler who was out for a duck in the opening game.

The Sydney Thunder were hardly convincing in their victory over the Sixers in the opening game as skipper Shane Watson rescued them with an outstanding batting display but they have a victory under their belts. The Strikers are relatively weaker than last season on paper, but much will depend on how their two internationals settle into the Big Bash. This may be a game to treat with caution and see how the Strikers look, but they are fairly evenly matched on paper with the Thunder possibly just favoured.
