What was the outcome in the last meeting? New Orleans Saints 30-20 Minnesota Vikings

  • Minnesota lost their last game of the regular season to Chicago but it did not matter as they already knew their seed ahead of that game and picked their team accordingly as they protected their key men.
  • Despite resting most of their star players last week, the Vikings had little choice where running back Dalvin Cook was concerned after he was ruled out with a shoulder injury but he has logged two full practices through Thursday and should suit up.
  • Linebacker Eric Kendricks made a welcome return to practice on Thursday for the first time since picking up an injury against the Packers in Week 16 and he is trending in the right direction to play.

  • New Orleans ended the regular season in superb style as they ran up a big score against Carolina and will fancy a run at the Super Bowl after showing signs throughout the season that they have the quality to go all the way.
  • The Saints made a move for support at wide receiver in the build-up to this contest but despite working out Antonio Brown, they opted to sign Tim White to their practice squad with Lil’Jordan Humphrey promoted to their active roster.
  • Starting safeties Vonn Bell and Marcus Williams both participated fully at Thursday’s practice in a good sign regarding their availability but cornerback Eli Apple remains a doubt with his ankle issue and faces a race against time to prove his fitness.

New Orleans have looked like they could mount a charge towards the Super Bowl all season but that will be put to the test as they host Minnesota in this Wildcard round. The Saints are strong on both sides of the ball and with the advantage of playing at home at the Superdome, their offense is likely to be too good against the Vikings who have crumbled under the pressure several times this season.
